15 Day Zambia honeymoon Safari, From $9,047
From wildlife watching in Zambia’s best national parks to sundowners on a river cruise, to swimming in the world’s largest waterfall Zambia offers endless romance and a unique honeymoon experience. You’ll take part in game drives by dawn, dusk and dark; enjoy fishing trips and canoe safaris on the river; then hike the spray-filled footpaths and take a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls. Combining bold adventure with intimate moments, a Zambia honeymoon promises a true trip of a lifetime.
Day 1- South Luangwa National Park
After arriving in Lusaka, you’ll take a domestic flight to Mfuwe and head to South Luangwa National Park—the first stop on your romantic Zambia honeymoon. You’ll be staying at Kafunta River Lodge, an award-winning luxury property that overlooks wildlife on the flood plains. You will have a candlelit four-course gourmet meal under a starlit sky, then relax by the campfire.
Day 2- Exploring South Luangwa National Park
Today, you’ll start your exploration of South Luangwa, one of Africa’s best national parks. You will wake up early for a morning game drive or a walking safari (Zambia is famous for this activity), where you’ll be able to spot your first big game animals, including giraffes, elephants, and buffalo. You’ll escape the hottest part of the day back at camp, returning for another safari excursion in the evening and after dark. South Luangwa is one of the few national parks on the continent that allows nighttime game drives, offering the opportunity to see nocturnal predators come alive.
Day 3- Transfer to Island Bush Camp, South Luangwa National Park
You’ll delve deeper into South Luangwa’s wilderness for an authentic bush experience, crossing woodland and open plains to Island Bush Camp, also owned by the Kafunta group. Far off the beaten track and way off the grid, here you will disconnect from technology and connect with your partner in a remote and secluded private chalet with stunning views of the Luangwa River.
Day 4- Exploring South Luangwa National Park
Here, you will take advantage of your wild surroundings with an intrepid walking safari, which provides you with a level of detail you can’t get from your safari vehicle. You’ll feel your senses heightened as you leave the jeep, encounter wildlife up close and discover how safari guides and park rangers track wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for some of Zambia’s endemic creatures, including Cookson’s wildebeests, Thornicroft’s giraffes and Crawshay’s zebras.
Day 5- Transfer to Three Rivers Camp, South Luangwa National Park
You will leave Island Bush Camp behind and journey seven kilometres (you can even walk between them as part of a walking safari and have your luggage forwarded if you wish) to Three Rivers Camps, Kafunta’s newest property. Located where the Luangwa, Kapamba and Lusangazi meet, this scenic lagoon attracts plenty of wildlife, including hippos and crocodiles. You will have the experience of a lifetime falling asleep under the stars while listening to the bubbling currents of the river.
Day 6- Exploring South Luangwa National Park
You will have game drives and bush walks around the three rivers that offer incredible wildlife-watching opportunities, with big game sightings including waterbucks, giraffes, elephants, and the rare roan antelopes. You will look out for famous predators, such as lions, leopards, and critically endangered African wild dogs. After a day of safari activities, you’ll unwind with a multi-course dinner and sundowners by the river.
Day 7- Transfer to Kafunta River Lodge, South Luangwa National Park
You will head back through South Luangwa, and arrive back at Kafunta River Lodge, where you’ll stay one more night before moving on to your next safari destination. You’ll take part in a last game drive or walking safari, or spend the day relaxing at the camp. Treat yourself to some pampering at the lodge’s in-house wellness spa, cool off in the swimming pool, or feel your muscles relax with a dip in the natural hot spring tub, which is fed by the region’s natural geothermal waters.
Day 8- Transfer to Lower Zambezi National Park
You’ll leave South Luangwa behind and head back to Mfuwe, taking a domestic flight to Jeki and a private transfer onto Lower Zambezi National Park. You’ll be staying at Tusk and Mane’s fly camps, which offer “light luxury” in the bush and the opportunity to move around the park, camping as you go.
The fly camps feature private, ensuite bathrooms with bucket showers, flushing toilets, a sink with a mirror, and comfortable single or double beds. All camp chores are taken care of by the staff. Other amenities include two bedside tables with solar lamps/reading lights, a safe box to put valuables in as required, two comfortable camp chairs, and two folding shelf systems for clothes. Please note that hot hanging bucket showers can be provided on request and the laundry service is complimentary.
Day 9-11- Exploring Lower Zambezi National Park
You will head out on a game drive or bush walk in Lower Zambezi’s prime wildlife viewing area. Don’t forget to look up, as the rich Riverlands are home to many of Zambia’s colourful bird species, making this national park an excellent birdwatching destination. You’ll watch colonies of colourful carmine bee-eaters and keep your eyes peeled for a rare Pel’s fishing owl.
The Zambezi River is perfect for a canoeing excursion, which offers a unique safari experience and the chance to see wildlife in the water, come for a drink, or relax by the riverbanks. Accompanied by a local guide and backup paddlers, you’ll explore three channels that break off from the main river (Inkalange, Chifungulu, and Discovery).
You’ll swap your safari adventures for a relaxing fishing expedition aboard a pontoon boat. On a catch-and-release basis, you’ll attempt to hook a toothy tigerfish, a big bream, or even a vundu. Then, toast your prize catch with a sundowner as you cruise back to camp in the evening.
